Selling a property
What is exchange of contracts?

When a completion date has been agreed (that is the day on which you actually move) and contracts are exchanged the transaction changes, it then becomes binding on the seller and buyer and to break the contract will incur the party at fault in substantial financial penalty.

As to the completion date, try not to fix a date too early. It is better for al the parties in the chain to be ready to exchange contract and then discuss completion dates. This avoids disappointment and frustration for all concerned. You will need to check that your removal firm can accommodate the suggested completion date and it may be possible to provisionally book a date with them but do not confirm the date until exchange.
